LETTER OF TRANSMITTAL

To His Excellency, George W. Clarke, Governor of Iowa:

SIR: I transmit to you herewith the forty-eighth annual report of the State Horticultural Society, which includes the transactions of its four auxiliary societies for the year 1913.

The society keeps its room open at the capitol during the usual office hours and visitors are always welcome.

The society was organized for the purpose of disseminating correct information concerning the cultivation of such fruits, flowers and trees as are adapted to the soil and climate of the state. To more fully carry on this line of work, the secretary desires to keep in touch with horticulturists of the state by correspondence or otherwise, and asks for reports on the nature and extent of fungous diseases or insect pests which have proven destructive in the past or are noticed for the first time in any locality, and that specimens be sent to him for identification and study, and to be used as material the society is now collecting for its museum. Reports on the condition of the fruit industry solicited from fruit growers in every township in the state.
