Museum, and this will be a very valuable addition to the Museum exhibits, which illustrate the development of aeronautics during the Great War, if it can be exhibited with them.

292. The ground floor of the eastern block of the new Museum buildings should have been handed over for occupation in October, but it was not finished at the end of the year. Six of the eighteenth century pumps and rotative engines have been erected there, and the four early locomotives have been placed in a neighbouring gallery, but nothing more has yet been possible.

293. The number of visitors has in the circumstances been well maintained, for the total during the year reached 475,000, or only 20,000 less than last year, while the numbers in school and student parties was 8,300, only 200 less than in 1922. This decline is wholly accounted for by the Science collections having been closed to the public during the last four months of the year.

Provision has been made for a guide lecturer, who will be appointed as soon as additional accommodation relieves the present congestion in the galleries and at the entrance, and makes it practicable to take parties through the collections without restricting the access of other visitors to them. Picture post-cards of a number of objects in the collections were placed on sale during the year, and were readily bought by visitors.
