Le cours de la rivière KAGERA sera levé dans la suite par la Section belge et la ligne médiane fixée provisoirement. Cette ligne sera soumise, pour acceptation, aux deux Gouvernements intéressés, qui désigneront s'il y a lieu des représentants locaux pour conclure un accord définitif.

51. De commun accord, nous suggérons que nos Gouvernements respectifs considèrent comme frontière dans les eaux du LAC TANGANIKA le parallèle partant de la Borne No. I jusqu'à sa rencontre avec la ligne médiane nord-sud du LAC TANGANIKA.

Au cas où la description de la frontière donnée ci-dessus ne serait pas rigoureusement conforme au tracé indiqué sur la carte annexée au présent protocole, il est expressément entendu que les indications de la carte feront foi.

Ainsi fait à KIGOMA, aux jour, mois et an que dessus, en deux originaux dressés en langue française et anglaise.

From this point down the KAGERA RIVER to the UGANDA FRONTIER the two Governments agree that the midstream of this latter river shall be accepted as the boundary between the Tanganyika Territory and Ruanda. The course of the KAGERA RIVER will be subsequently surveyed by the Belgian Section and the midstream line provisionally fixed. This line will be submitted for acceptance to the two interested Governments, who will then, if necessary, appoint local representatives to make the final arrange

ments.

51. By common agreement it is suggested that our respective Governments consider the boundary in the waters of LAKE TANGANYIKA to be the parallel due west from Boundary Pillar No. I to the point of intersection with the north and south median line of the lake.

Should the description of the frontier given above not agree exactly with the line shown on the map attached to the present Protocol, it is distinctly understood that the boundary as shown on the map is authoritative.
