TABLE III.-LICENCES NOT RENEWED [BREWSTER SESSIONS, 1925] 97 TABLE V.-OFFENCES BY LICENSED PERSONS OR IN RELATION NOTES ON THE ANNUAL TABLES. In this volume the term "on-licence" refers to premises licensed by justices for the sale of intoxicating liquor for consumption on or off the premises; the term "off-licence" indicates premises licensed for sale for consumption off the premises only. "On-licences" comprise publicans' and beerhouse licences, and licences for the sale of cider, wine, or sweets. "Off-licences" are granted for the sale of spirits, beer, cider, wine, or sweets. "Sweets" means any liquor which is made from fruit and sugar, or from fruit and sugar mixed with any other material, and which has undergone a process of fermentation in the manufacture thereof, and includes British wines, made wines, mead, and metheglin. When two or more of the above licences are held in respect of the same premises, e.g., a beerhouse licence and a wine licence, they are treated as forming a unit in the enumeration of licensed premises. Throughout the tables the figures are grouped according to compensation areas, viz. :-Counties (and Divisions of Counties) and County Boroughs. |
