[Compiled from Ministry of Transport Annual Returns of the Railway Companies for Northern Ireland.] The totals for 1924 and 1925 comprise all those receiving salaries or wages for the full week in question, together with the equivalent number of full time workers in cases where employees were paid for less than the complete week; for 1921-23 the totals comprise all those paid for time equivalent to three or more days during the week. The figures include persons employed in the Railway Clearing House, but exclude those employed on the Manchester Ship Canal and those not directly employed by the Railway Companies, e.g. employed by contractors. † "Adults and Juniors" are those paid at adult and junior rates of pay, respectively.
