INCOME, EXPENDITURE AND FUNDS, 1911-1924. Registrar of Friendly Societies, the Registrar of Friendly Societies for Northern Ministry of Labour.] The Trade Unions included are 100 of the principal Unions at the end of 1923. The aggregate membership of these Unions was approximately 71 per cent. of the total membership of all Trade Unions at the end of 1911, and 74 per cent at the end of 1924. The figures given include for the whole of the period 1911-24 those of 90 other Unions which, at some time during this period, were absorbed in these 100 Unions. In the case of 192 other Unions which were absorbed during this period, it has not been practicable to include figures for the years prior to the date of their absorption; but the total membership of these 192 Unions was never more than 4 per cent. of the membership of the Unions whose accounts are included. Amounts shown in the Returns and Accounts supplied by the 100 principal Trade Unions as receivable from the Ministry of Labour (and formerly from the Board of Trade) in respect of Unemployment Benefit disbursed by them under Sections 105 and 106 of the National Insurance Act, 1911, and under the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, of Emergency Grants made in 1914 and 1915, and of Administration Expenses incurred under the 1920 Act. Based on the mean of membership at the beginning and end of the year. Includes benefit paid to members rendered idle because work could not be found for them owing to a strike of other workpeople. Exclusive of payments from Political Fund. |
