Under the Explosives Act, 1875, 38 Vict. c. 17, s. 96, all penalties imposed upon the prosecution by a Government Inspector, and the proceeds of any forfeited Explosives sold, are payable to the Exchequer. Under section 26 the fees chargeable for licences granted by the Secretary of State are payable to the Exchequer. The fines inflicted in England and Wales, and all the fees, are now appropriated in aid of the Home Office Vote, in pursuance of Treasury directions given under the Act 54 & 55 Vict. c. 24. During the year ended 30 September 1927 the fines received in Great Britain amounted to 11. 5s., and the fees amounted to 1,040. 4s.

of Living bonus payable in accordance with the scheme set out in the Appendix on page 129.

H.-CONTRIBUTIONS

TOWARDS THE EXPENSES OF

PROBATION.
Grants to the Councils of Counties and Boroughs with
separate Commissions of the Peace and to the Metro-
politan Police Fund towards the expenditure incurred by
Probation Committees in respect of the salaries, remuner-
ation, superannuation and expenses of Probation Officers
in accordance with rules made by the Secretary of State
and the expense of maintaining persons who have been
released on probation under a condition as to residence.

The grant to each Council will be one-half of the total
net expenditure approved by the Secretary of State.
Issues of grant will be made in advance of the audit of the
Accounts upon the basis of the approved estimated
expenditure, and the amounts so issued will not be liable
to surrender, any necessary adjustments being made on
subsequent grants.

The accounts of the local authorities will be audited in the usual manner
