Went to Lancaster from Sterling, to see my brother and his wife-my first visit since his last marriage-my nephew and his daughter went with me in the Carriage -Returned to Sterling and dined-after which came. home-Showers-troubled with Cholick during the night -took ladanum & pills. Sam'. Crocker from Taunton.

26. Kept Chamber most of the day.

27. Did not go to Church-being unwell. Mr. Merrick and wife, and Caroline and William at dinner. Mr. Merrick and Wife returned to Taunton.

28. S. Crocker & Hannah went to Boston. Party at the widows.

30. Painted trimmings to The Stable, wood house, &c. also Kitchen Floor.

July, 1824.

1. Rode out-Mrs. Knox went with me.

2. An aged Quaker & his wife, of Smithfield, called and took breakfast. Frances spent the day with us. Repainted the Doors on the front of the house I live in.

Abr. Lincoln, Esq.1 one of the Council, and of this town, died in Boston, suddenly, by apoplexy.

3. Dr. Lincoln's corpse brought from Boston and interred.

4. Went to Church twice. Frances & William at dinner.

5. Went to Leicester by invitation to celebrate the Anniversary of Independence, and Rev. Dr. Bancroft went with me. Returned before 5 °Clock. Had a very pleasant

time.

6. Moses Thomas & Wife, visit. They returned home this Evening.

7. Attended an adjourned meeting, in Worcester, of the Am. Antiq". Society.

8. A Load, 2d. Load of Mr. Merrick's goods, arrived from Taunton.

10. Parker went to Princeton on his own business.

1 Abraham Lincoln, the son of Enoch and Rachel Fearing Lincoln, of Hingham, Mass., came to Worcester about the year 1783, and studied medicine with Dr. Benjamin Greene, then a practising physician in the town. He began business as a druggist in the little wooden building at Lincoln square, in front of the present Antiquarian Hall, which was the first druggist shop in Worcester county, opened by Dr. William Paine in 1773. He lived across the street, in the house of his father-in-law, Timothy Bigelow.

Dr. Lincoln was always active in town affairs. was a selectman from 1809 to 1824; representative to the General Court from 1809 to 1823; and at the time of his death, a member of Governor Eustis' council.

He married, 7 January, 1787, Nancy, daughter of Timothy and Anna Andrews Bigelow.

20. Finished painting the House I live in, outside wholly. 21. Also the wood house.

22. Finished thoroughly repairing the barn to the house behind the Court house. All the window blinds to the house I live in new painted. Repaired the house behind the Court house and painted and papered several roomspainted the front stairway-floors of the entry, &c.

25. Unwell-did not go to Church. Mr. & Mrs. Merrick & Caroline at Dinner. Parker went again to Princeton. 26. Unwell Catarrhral Complaint. Dr. Green visited

me.

27. Mrs. K. rose at 3 this morning. Rode out with Mrs. K. Mrs. Merrick, Frances and Caroline had the Carriage previously.

28. Rode out-Mrs. K. with me still unwell. Caroline spent the day with us. Bragg my late Coachman called

to see us.

29. Mr. E. T. Andrews, wife and daughter and Miss H. Weld from Boston. Mr. & Mrs. Merrick, Frances and Caroline lodged.

30. Mr. & Mrs. Andrews & daughter, Miss Weld, and Mr. & Mrs. Merrick & Caroline dined with me. Mr. & Mrs. Merrick, Frances and Caroline tarried with us over night.
