Instructions: (1) For purposes of this schedule, the track categories are defined as follows: Track Category A-20 million or more gross ton-miles per mile per year (including track over which passenger service is provided-see Category F). B-Less than 20 million gross ton-miles per mile per year but at least 5 million (does not include track over which passenger service is provided-see Category F). C-Less than 5 million gross ton-miles per mile per year but at least 1 million (does not include track over which passenger service is provided-see Category F). D-Less than 1 million gross ton-miles per mile per year (does not include track over which passenger service is provided-see Category F). E-Way and yard switching tracks (passing tracks, crossovers and turnouts shall be included in appropriate Category A, B, C, D, F, and Potential Abandonments, as appropriate.) F-Track over which any passenger service is provided (other than potential abandonments); however, if annual traffic density is greater than 20 million gross tonmiles per mile per year, the track shall be included in Track Category A. (2) This schedule shall only include those lines maintained by the reporting carrier. It shall not include track maintained by others over which the reporting carrier has trackage rights. (3) If, for two consecutive years, a line segment classified in one track category maintains a traffic density which would place it in another, it shall be reclassified into that category as of the beginning of the second year. (4) Average speed reduction per slow order mile shall be based on reductions from the maximum authorized timetable train speeds. (5) Miles under slow order shall not include those due to ongoing maintenance, or other temporary track conditions such as floods or derailments. 357 I.C.C.
