Amend the Dogs Act, 1906.

E it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, 5 as follows:

1. (1) The Dogs Act, 1906 (hereinafter referred to Owners of as "the principal Act "), shall have effect as if section dogs to be one thereof (which imposes liabilities on the owner of a dog for injuries done by that dog to cattle) applied to 10 injuries done to poultry as it applies to injuries done to cattle; and accordingly the words "or poultry " shall be inserted in that section after the word "cattle" in both places where that word occurs.

(2) For the purposes of this section and of section. 15 one of the principal Act the expression "poultry " shall have the meaning assigned to it by the Poultry Act, 1911.

2. Section four of the principal Act shall be repealed, and the following section shall be substituted 20 therefor :

4. (1) Any person who takes possession of a stray dog shall forthwith either return the dog to its owner, or deliver the dog to a police officer of the police area in which the dog was found, and inform that officer where the dog was found.

(2) Any person failing to comply with the provisions of the foregoing subsection shall be liable, on conviction under the Summary Jurisdiction Acts, to a fine not exceeding forty shillings.

"(3) A dog which has been delivered to a police officer under this section shall be treated as if it had been seized by that officer in pursuance of section three of this Act.

"(4) In this section the expression police 10 area' has the meaning assigned to it by subsection (10) of section three of this Act."

3. Section six of the principal Act (which provides that an owner of cattle shall not leave their carcases unburied in a place to which dogs can gain access) shall 15 apply to a person having the control of cattle as it applies to an owner of cattle; and accordingly the words or under his control" shall be inserted in that section after the words "belonging to him."

4. (1) This Act may be cited as the Dogs (Amend- 20 and appli- ment) Act, 1928, and this Act and the principal Act may be cited together as the Dogs Acts, 1906 to 1928.

(2) any person who conducts or manages a home
or place of refuge or shelter for dogs or

(3) any person licensed to perform experiments on
dogs or cats;

shall keep a register and enter therein the following particulars of every dog or cat which he acquires by purchase or otherwise or disposes of by sale or otherwise or houses or shelters or acquires or receives for the 20 purpose of experiments, as the case may be, viz., breed, markings, sex, date and purpose of acquisition, date and manner of disposal, price or other consideration paid or given or received, if any, and the name and address of the person from whom the same has been 25 acquired or to whom disposed.
