Page 311 - OF PAPER. — A ream of writing or hand-made paper usually consists of twenty quires of twenty-four sheets each, 480 in all ; but machine-made paper is generally made up to 516 sheets (twenty-one and a half quires), termed " printers' reams." As long numbers are mostly printed on these papers, each ream thus gives something more than 500 perfect copies, and allows for waste and spoilage.
