Annual Report of this Office. Since that statement was written, no farther action has been taken in the matter by this Office, except to issue orders to the district land officers at Natchitoches, La., for the offering of the Fort Jessup military reservation in their district. The report of the offering has not yet been received from them. In view of the fact stated in my last annual report, that additional legislation is proposed in regard to the Fort Smith, Fort Abercrombie, and Fort Sumner reservations, and in consideration of the business depression which has existed throughout the country, it has not been considered expedient to otter them for sale under tho circumstances. I respectfully renew the recommendation made in my last annual report - that certain of the reservations therein specified should be laid open by act of Congress to disposal, as other public lauds. I would further include in that recommendation the reservations at Fort Sabine, in Louisiana, and Fort Bridger, in "Wyoming Territory, which have since been surveyed. On neither of these are there any Government improvements. There is no reasou to suppose the land embraced therein to be of any special value beyond that of other public lands, and as there is no indication of a particular demand therefor, an appraisement aud offering, if made, would not probably result in receipts to the Treasury sufficient to compensate for the expenses thereof, foe which, if incurred, an appropriation by Congress will be necessary.
