Any historian, amateur or professional, will find this book a fascinating story that is easy to read and comprehensive about the expansion of New York State west of the Genesee River following the settlement with Indians at Big Springs (Avon). It includes many first hand accounts of pioneer settlers that led one accustumed to the luxury of modern life to marvel that the people of that day had to endure, actually accomplished the settlement with the ingenuity to use whatever resoources naturally existed and the will to survuve.
