Mr. John E. Helms, of Hamblen county, having received a majority of all the votes cast, was thereupon declared duly and constitutionally elected Principal Clerk of the Senate.

ELECTION OF ASSISTANT CLERK.

The next business being the election of Assistant Clerk, and nominations being in order:

Mr. Moseley nominated Mr. Cannon.

Mr. Hodges nominated Mr. Stratton.

Mr. Logan nominated Mr. Polk.

Mr. Buchanan nominated Mr. Ridley.

The result of the first ballot taken was announced as follows:

The next business being the election of an Engrossing Clerk, the following names were placed in nomination:

Mr. Trotter nominated Mrs. McCallum.
