ESTIMATE of the Sum which will be required in the Year ending 31 March 1927, to defray the EXPENSE of various MISCELLANEOUS EFFECTIVE SERVICES. Nine Hundred and Seventy-One Thousand Four Hundred Pounds. (£971,400.) II. SUBHEADS under which this Vote will be accounted for. NAVY ESTIMATES, 1926. VOTE 11. Miscellaneous Effective Services. [Vote 11.] This Vote provides for the expenditure on (a) Administrative Services of so general a character as to render difficult a distribution of their cost over the various Establishment and Store Votes, e.g., Telegraphic and Telephonic Services; Gratuities for Special Services rendered; Admiralty Committees ; Advertisements; Newspapers; and Police employed in patrolling the waterways at the principal Naval Ports at Home. (b) Miscellaneous Services in connection with the personnel and matériel of the Fleet, e.g., Travelling and Lodging Expenses of Officers and Men; Piloting and allied services for H.M. Ships; Compensation for damage done by H.M. Ships; Compensation to Officers and Men for losses by Shipwreck, &c.; Contributions in aid of Religious and Charitable Institutions; Allowances to Ministers of Religion; and the expenses of Martial Law. Subhead Z.Z. is a Credit Subhead and includes a proportion of the contribution payable by the Government of India in aid of Naval expenditure. [Vote 11.] MEMORANDA. NAVY ESTIMATES, 1926. EXPLANATION OF DIFFERENCE. A.-PASSAGE MONEY, &c. The Subhead provides for travelling and subsistence expenses generally (including sea and rail conveyance) of Officers and Men of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Shore Wireless and Signal Services, Royal Marine Police and Reserves, and Civil Staff at the Admiralty and Naval Establishments; also for the conveyance of families and household effects in certain circumstances. Provision is further necessary at present for the repayment within prescribed limits, of the extra expenses necessarily incurred by civilian officials and workmen for temporary furnished apartments when transferred from one place to another for Service reasons, until they are able to find unfurnished accommodation for themselves and families.
