REPORT.

STANDING COMMITTEE C, to whom the LEGITIMACY BILL was referred ;-Have gone through the Bill and made Amendments thereunto.

LEGITIMACY BILL.

Clause 1.

Amendment made, in page 1, line 7, after the word marry," by inserting the words "or have married"(Dr. Chapple).

Other Amendments made, in page 1, line 8, by leaving out the word "whether," and inserting the word "if ". (Mr. Solicitor-General),-instead thereof; and in line 10, by leaving out the words "or elsewhere" (Mr. SolicitorGeneral).

Another Amendment made, in page 1, line 11, by leaving out the words "but save as hereinafter mentioned ". (Mr. Solicitor-General).

Another Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 16, to leave out sub-section (2)-(Mr. Solicitor-General).—Question put, "That sub-section (2) stand part of the Clause." -The Committee divided:

Amendment made, in page 2, line 34, after the first word person," by inserting the words "or his issue (Mr. Solicitor-General).

Clause, as amended, agreed to.

Clause 4.

Amendment proposed, in page 3, line 16, to leave out` sub-section (3) in order to insert the words :

"(3) Where on the descent of an estate tail or other entailed interest created after the commencement of this Act, or under a disposition, the right to any property, real or personal, depends on the relative seniority of the children of any person, and those children include one or more legitimated persons, the legitimated person or persons shall rank as if he or they had been born at the time when he or they became legitimated by virtue of this Act, and if more than one such legitimated person became legitimated at the same time, they shall rank as between themselves in order of seniority "-(Mr. Solicitor-General), -instead thereof.

Question, "That sub-section (3) stand part of the Clause," put, and negatived.
