Enable county councils to pay travelling expenses A.D. 1924.
incurred by the members of such councils and
committees thereof in connection with the
performance of their official duties, and also
the travelling expenses of delegates to con-
ferences.

BE

E it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, 5 as follows:

1.-(1) The council of a county may, subject as Power to hereinafter provided, pay out of the county fund any pay travell reasonable travelling expenses incurred by members of ing and the council or of any committee thereof in connection 10 with their attendance at

(a) meetings of the council or committee;
(b) meetings of any joint board, joint committee,
or other body on which the council or committee
is entitled to appoint representatives; and
(c) visits of inspection of any property belonging
to or proposed to be acquired by the council
or committee or of any works undertaken or
proposed to be undertaken by them or either
of them.

(2) The council of a county may also, subject as
hereinafter provided, pay out of the county fund any

other

expenses.

A.D. 1924. travelling expenses incurred by members and officials of the council or any committee thereof appointed by the council as delegates to attend on their behalf meetings or conferences held for the purpose of discussing any matters connected with the powers and duties of county 5 councils or any committees thereof:

Provided that no payment shall be made in respect of the expenses of more than four delegates (including officials) attending any one meeting or conference.

2. This Act shall apply to those councils of counties 10 in England and Wales by whom it has been adopted by a resolution passed by a majority of the whole number of members of the county council at an ordinary or special meeting of the council at which not less than two-thirds of the whole number of members of the 15 council are present, one calendar month's notice in writing of such resolution having been previously given to each member of the council.

3. In this Act—

The expression "property" includes highways 20
and bridges;

The expression "committee" includes a standing
joint committee and an asylum visiting com-
mittee, and also any sub-committee duly
appointed;
The expression" travelling expenses " does not
include subsistence expenses or payment for
loss of remunerative time;

The expression
members.

"members" includes co-opted

4. Nothing in this Act shall prejudicially affect the provisions of the County Councils Association (Expenses) Acts, 1890 to 1920.

5. This Act shall be read as one with the Local Government Act, 1888, and may be cited as the County 35 short title. Councils (Expenses) Act, 1924.
