M. second wife, Elizabeth Gibson, 9 mo. 20, 1821, widow of William Gibson, dau. of Joseph Miller and Elizabeth of Chester co., Pa., b. 9 mo. 6, 1776; d. 11 mo. 12, 1861. No ch. Abraham and Ann resided at Goshenville, Chester co., where he was engaged in milling until 1815. They then removed to a farm called Whitehall, within three miles of Baltimore, Md. Here Ann d., and he m. second wife. In 1825 they removed to New Market, Frederick co., Md., and in 1827 they removed with all their family to Richland co., O. Here he died, and was

buried in Friends' grounds near Palmyra, same co.

Elizabeth

continued with his ch., and removed in 1854 to Muscatine co., Ia., where she died. She was buried in Friends' grounds near West Liberty. After leaving Pennsylvania, Abraham followed farming the rest of his life.

145. Abigail, b. 2 mo. 22, 1776; d. 2 mo. 2, 1815; m. Caspar Coffman 1792 (no record of his parents), b. May 29, 1771; d. Dec. 11, 1834.

His occupation was paper-making. They resided for a time in Springfield, Delaware co.; removed to Catawissa, Pa., where they continued the remainder of their lives.

146. John, b. 6 mo. 16, 1778; d. 3 mo. 29, 1868; m. Beulah Walter 11 mo. 18, 1801, dau. of William Walter, Jr., and Betty Hicklin (who were m. 12 mo. 2, 1762), b. 10 mo. 9, 1780; d. 3 mo. 19, 1819.

William, the third of nine children of William Walter and Rachel Newlin (who were m. 2 mo. 25, 1734), b. 10 mo. 14, 1738, and brother to Lydia (see No. 142). Rachel, dau. of Nathaniel Newlin, Jr., and Jane Woodward (see No. 11). Betsy Hicklin was the dau. of William and Dinah. She died in 1825, in her ninety-fifth year.

M. second wife, Elizabeth Hall, 3 mo. 17, 1821, dau. of Stephen Hall and Betsy Mancil (see No. 229), b. 1778; d. 8 mo. 9, 1847. No ch.

John, like his father, was a saddler, in connection with which he carried on farming. He inherited that part of the original Palmer tract which his father had obtained in the same way. In 1824 his whole family were taken sick with a species of typhoid fever; three of the children died within a few days of each other; the neighbors then assembled and removed the most of those remaining to their houses, from a fear that some local cause for the disease existed that would carry them off.

He was distinguished through life for a great love of fox-hunting and outdoor exercises, and for an enduring athletic power, few being able to cope with him in mowing, cradling, etc. In feats of agility he also excelled, being able to jump over an object six feet from the ground. The last years of his life were passed in prolonged visits amongst his children.

The portraits annexed are illustrative of the rather memorable coincidence mentioned in the following notice:

“REMARKABLE.—Quite a remarkable occurrence took place at Concord Friends' Meeting-house on the 12th inst. Four generations were represented, they being John Palmer, his son, grandson and great-grandson; all there to sit in silent worship at the same time. John Palmer was eighty-nine years old on

the 16th."-Del. Co. American, June 19, 1867.

He was disowned for marrying out of Friends' Meeting 5 mo. 8, 1801. They removed to Philadelphia. I have been unable to find any further record respecting them.

148. Thomas, b., 1786; d. 10 mo. -, 1820; m. Abigail Williams, 10-mo., 1809, dau. of Joshua Williams and Phebe Travilla, b. 1 mo. 18, 1791.

He was a farmer. They lived in the vicinity of Baltimore, Md., where he died.

She m. a second husband, George Andrews, 10 mo. -, 1831, and for a time was in Florida. He d. 4 mo. 15, 1845. She resided at 184 W. Madison street, Baltimore, Md. d. 1874.
