Through an explosion. probably caused by blocked by the fall of heavy rocks and gas. 111 men lost their lives in the coal mine of the Wheeling Steel corporation at Benwood. W Va.. Monday morning. April 28, 1924. The entrance to the shaft Was

efforts to save the lives of any of the men in the mine were unavailing. Their bodies were recovered only after several days of hard work.
