In the fiscal year 1923 there were admitted to American citizenship 145.084 persons, 24.874 of whom were from Italy. 22.621 from Poland. 17.190 from Russia, 16.953 from Great Britain and possessions (except Canada). 12,064 from Germany and the remainder from smaller countries and their possessions.

enrollment of over 502: Jackson, Miss., conducted classes in thirty-one homes; Kansas City, Kas.. had thirty, and similar favorable reports came from other sections of the country.

NATURALIZATION BY DISTRICTS (1923).

The following table includes only civilian certificates of naturalization issued in the fiscal year 1923. In addition there were 7,109 military certificates of naturalization issued to 7.109 aliens who served in the American military and naval forces during the world war and thus became entitled to citizenship under a special law.

Under the "Cable act" of Sept. 22, 1922. which accords separate citizenship rights to women, 22.209 declarations of intention were filed by women in 1923 According to the annual report of Commissioner Crist of the bureau of naturalization, the law providing independent naturalization and citizenship for married women resulted in the extension of women's classes all over the country. Statistics compiled subsequent to the preparation of the report show that women in attendance upon public school classes for adult immigrants averaged 35 per cent of the approximately 250,000 reported to have been rolled in 1923. In New York city alone 131 classes were conducted for women with enrollment of 1.257: Hibbing. Minn., had six Americanization home teachers. each with an St. Louis
