The Manual also includes information on quasiofficial agencies, international organizations in which the United States participates, and boards, committees, and commissions. A typical agency description includes a list of principal officials, a summary statement on the agency's purpose and role in the Government, a brief history of the agency, including its legislative or executive authority, a description of its programs and activities, and a "Sources of Information" section. This last section is particularly helpful, providing the addresses and telephone numbers for obtaining detailed information on consumer activities, contracts and grants, employment, publications, and many other areas of citizen interest. The focus of the Manual is on programs and activities rather than internal agency structure. Persons interested in the detailed organizational structure of an agency should refer to its most recent statement of organization, published in the Federal Register or Code of Federal Regulations in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 552. This year the organization charts, which in the past appeared as part of the agency description, are carried in Appendix C. Appendix D now contains information on the Federal regional structure; Appendix E, public information laws; and Appendix F, agencies appearing in the Code of Federal Regulations.
