Deficit, 10,655l. 5s. 11d.-Payments were made in respect of the military user of roads and bridges in Iraq, for which provision had been included in the previous year's estimates. For details of expenditure, see Paper No. 5, page 60. F.-Lands and Buildings. Surplus, 65,7191. 5s. 10d.-Protracted negotiations at home caused underspending of 41,000. A proposal to acquire certain land in Palestine was abandoned (20,0007.), and requirements in Iraq were overestimated (5,0001.). Deficit, 36,0177. 16s. 8d.-An unexpected arrear claim for rents of billets in Iraq and an underestimate for Palestine (40,0007.) were partly offset by an overestimate for reinstatements in Iraq (3,6007.). H.-Air Ministry Estates. Deficit, 1,1261. 7s. 3d.-Unforeseen expenditure on repairs to fences and buildings (7001.), and afforestation work at Halton (4007.). Surplus, 120,535l. 15s. 8d.-Issues of Stores to works exceeded purchases, see foregoing statement (64,5001.); also, the cost of stores handling, and of transport in Iraq, was over-estimated, and economies were effected in administration. (Revaluation during 1924-25 of Stocks of Stores in hand on 1 April, 1924, resulted in a decrease in value of 33,1801. at Home and Egyptian Stations and 11,2917. in Iraq). * In the course of the year a reorganization was effected, and a branch of the Air Ministry Works Department was established in Palestine to take over the administration of Works Services in that country and Trans-Jordan. These were previously carried out partly by the Palestine Public Works Department on an agency basis, and partly administered from Egypt. As a consequence, a quantity of ex-Army stores hitherto held by the Public Works Department on behalf of the Air Ministry, together with stores in Palestine accounted for in Egypt, were taken on charge in Palestine. Stores to the value of 4,8531. pertaining to this Vote were issued to other Votes without financial adjustment, and this vote received from other Air Votes, without payment, stores valued at 5421. |
