Auguste, Jean Paris, Jr., Engineer and Inventor, of Bradford, Pa., was born in 1875 in New York City. He received the degree of Sc.D. from St. John's College. He began as research chemical engineer in Bradford, Pa.; has served as director and consulting engineer for many chemical manufacturing plants. He is inventor of many processes, covered by patents, mainly processes relating to petroleum and chemical industries. In 1900 he married Miss Gertrude Van Ness D'Moore; and they reside in Charleston, W.Va.; and Bradford.

Augustine, William Franklin, Banker, of the Merchants National Bank, Richmond, Va., was born in 1885 in Richmond, Va. He was educated at Richmond public schools, and at Richmond College. He is vice-president of the Merchants National Bank; and secretary of the Clearing House Association of Richmond Va. Austin, W. C., State Printer, of Cottonwood Falls, Kan., was born on Dec. 20, 1872, in Cottonwood Falls, Kan. He was educated at the Cottonwood Falls High School, and Kansas State University, Lawrence. He is owner of the Chase County Leader of Cottonwood Falls. He became state printer for Kansas. In 1895 he married Miss Rose Palmer; and they have family of two sons and one daughter, and reside in Cottonwood Falls.

He is vice-president of the American Game Protective Association, and editor of its publications; has also been state and game commissioner of Minnesota thirteen years; president of the board of education and mayor of his city; and president of the Free Public Library. Aylsworth, William Prince, Clergyman Theologian and College President, of Bethany, Neb., was born on Dec. 12,1844, in Cuba, Ill. He was educated at the Chicago University, and the Bethany College; and has received the degrees of A. B., A.M. and LL.D. He is chancellor emcritus and professor of biblical literature at Cotner University. He has been president of the Fairfield College, and also chancellor of Cotner University, later known as Cotner College. In 1872 he married Miss Mary Doane Stuzaken; and they have a family of one son and one daughter, and reside in Bethany, Neb.

July 12, 1856, in Kasota, Minn. He was educated in the public schools of his native city. He is junior member of the firm of Babcock and Willcox, quarrymen and finishers. He is also president of the First State Bank of Kasota, president of the Kasota Gravel Company, and also president of the Green Stone and Marble Company. He was formerly telegraphy operator, express Agent and Station Agent. He is a member of the Knights of Pythias Club, and is a prominent Mason. In 1883 he married Miss Marion Stark; and they have a family of three sons and three daughters, and reside in Kasota, Minn.

Babcock, Ernest Brown, Educator, of Berkeley, Cal., was born on July 10,1877, in Edgerton, Wis. He received the degrees of B.S. and M.S. from the University of California. In 1807-09 he was assistant professor and in 1909-13 he was agricultural educator, and since 1913 he was professor of genetics in the University of California. He has made valuable researches on the nature and origin of certain form of the Juglans Californica Wats. He is a member of the American Genetical Association, the American Association of Science, and various other clubs and fraternal organizations. In 1908 he married Miss Georgia Bowen; and they reside in Berkeley, Cal.

He has been Judge of the Superior Court for the State of Washington, and was formerly City Attorney of Vancouver, Wash. In 1906 he married Miss Anne Phillips; and they have a family of one son and two daughters, and reside in Vancouver, Wash.

Backus, Mango Franklin, Banker and Financier, of Seattle, Wash., was born on May 11, 1853, in South Livonia, N.Y. He was one of the organizers of the Washington National Bank of Seattle; and in 1900 he became its president. In 1896 he organized the banking house of Graves and Backus, and is now its president.

Bacon, Asa Singer, Business Superintendent, of the Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago, Ill., was born on Jan. 15, 1866, in Midland City, Mich. He is superintendent of the Presbyterian Hospital; and treasurer of the American Hospital Association. He is the author of American Petroleum Industry, and is the inventor of processes for the manufacture of gasoline, recovery of cuprous sulphide from ores for hydrogenating vegetable oils. Baer, Mrs. Libbie C., Author and Poet, of Appleton, Wis., was born on Nov. 18, 1849 in Bethel, Ohio. She was educated at Parkers College of New Richmond, Ohio. She has been department president of the Woman's Relief Corps, and also a past National president of Woman's Relief Corps. She is the author of In the Line of Fancy, and of other works.
