He was educated at the Central High School, and at the University of Pennsylvania. He is special counsel of the Criminal Law Section of the American Bar Association. He is president of the State Commission on Pensions of Pennsylvania; president of Oak Lane Park Improvement Association; and has held many other positions of trust and honor. In 1911-13 he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Legislature. He is a member of the Manufacturers Club, of the Lawyers Club, the Old York Road Country Club, the Manufacturers Country Club, the Sagamore Club, and of many other clubs and organizations. In 1905 he married Miss Florence H. Nelson; and they have a family of one son and one daughter, and reside at 708 Sixtyfourth Avenue. Abbott, Ernest Hamlin, Editor, of 381 Fourth Avenue, New York City, was born on April 18, 1870, in Cornwall-onHudson, N.Y. He was educated at the Hill School, Harvard, and at Union and Andover Theological Seminaries. He is now editor-in-chief of the Outlook; and secretary of the Outlook Company. He has also been minister of the Congregational Church of Fryeburg, Maine; member of school boards, and various commissions not governmental. He is a member of the Storm King Golf Club, the National Press Club of Washington, D. C., the New York Press Club, and the City Club of New York. In 1899 he married Miss May Louise Cteberg; and they have a family of five sons, and reside in Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. Abbott, John J., Banker, of the Chicago Trust and Savings Bank, Chicago, Ill. He has been an assistant cashier, cashier and vice-president of the American Trust and Savings Bank of Chicago. He is vice president of the Continental and Commercial Trust and Savings Bank. He is a member of the Chicago Athletic Abbott, William Lament, Engineer, of 72 West Adams Street, Chicago, Ill.,was born Feb. 14, 1861, in Whiteside County, Ill. Since 1899 he has been chief operating engineer of the Commonwealth Edison Company of Chicago. For Fifteen years he has been president of the board of trustees of the University of Illinois; and president of the Western Society of Engineers. He is a member of the Fellow American Society of Mechanical Engineers, of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, and of the Chicago Athletic Association. In 1883 he married Miss Carrie Entwhistle; and they have a family of two sons and three daughters. Abbott, William Rufus, Business President, of 212 West Washington Street, Chicago, Ill., was born Sept. 18, 1869, in New York. He was educated in grammar schools of New York. He is president of the Illinois Bell Telephone Company; a director of the Union Trust Company, of the Chandelier Manufacturing Company, the Richardson Sand Company, and the Chicago Motor Coach Company. He is a member of the Chicago Club, the Chicago Athletic Club, the Chicago Yacht Club, the Exmoor Country Club, the Delavan Country Club, the Industrial Club the Commercial Club, and the Mid-Day Club of Chicage. In 1892 he married Miss Mabel Rosalie Harland; and they have a family of one son and one daughter, and reside at 5741 Kenmore Avenue Chicago, Ill. Abel, John Jacob, Pharmacologist, of John Hopkins Medical School, Baltimore, Md., was born on May 19, 1857, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was educated at the University of Michigan, John Hopkins University, and various foreign universities. He is professor of pharmacology at the John Hopkins University. He is also editor of the Journal of Pharmacol 3 ogy and Experimental Therapeutics. He is honorable member of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, a corresponding member K. K. Gesellschaft der Kertze, Vienna, member of the National Academy of Sciences, member of the American Philosophical Society, an associate member of the Royal Society of Medical and Natural Sciences of Brussels, foreign member Dutch Society of Scientists, honorable member Society for Biology of Buenos Aires. In 1883 he married Miss Mary Heninan; and they have a family of two sons. Abercombie, Ronald Taylor, Physician, of 18 West Franklin Street, Baltimore, Md. He is now Director of Physical Education at the Johns Hopkins University of Baltimore, Md. He is a member of the Maryland Club, the University Club, the Johns Hopkins Club, and the Gibson Island Club. In 1906 he married Miss Jennie Scott Waters; they have a family of two daughters, and reside at 10 Whitfield Road, Guilford, Baltimore, Md. Abernethy, Arthur Talmage, Educator Clergyman, Founder and Author, of the Rutherford College, N.C., was born Oct. 10, 1872, in Burke County, N.C. He was educated at Rutherford College, Johns Hopkins University, and by private tutors. He is a weekly short story writer; over six million copies syndicated. He honorary elder for life in the Christian Church; general evangelist going free to churches in need. He has also been a professor of Latin and Greek at Rutherford College; pastor of Belmont Church of New York, the Richmond Street Church of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is memher of thirty-eight American and European Societies. He resides in Asheville, N.C.; and maintains a country home in Rutherford College, N.C. Abrams, Leland De'Yo, Business Exceutive, and Financier, of 1415 Eye Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C., was born on Dec. 16, 1897, in Dolgeville, N.Y. He was educated in Schenectady, N.Y. He is chairman of the board of directors of the Washington Loan and Finance Company; general sales manager of Washington Real Estate Company. He has al so been president of the Keystone Real Estate Company; and president of the Washington Loan and Finance Company. He is a member of the Prince George Country Club, and the American Business Club. In 1921 he married Miss E. Buth Kuhlman; and they have a family of two sons and one daughter, and reside at De 'Yo Manor, Chevy Chase, Md. Achorn, Edgar Oakes, Lawyer, of 10 Tremont Street, Boston, Mass., was born Aug. 20, 1859, in New Castle, Maine. He was educated at Bowdoin College, He is now praticing law. He is a member of the American Bar Association. He is also Knight Grand Commander of the Royal Order of Vasa Sweden. He is a member of the Boston Art Club, the Massachusetts Historic Genealogical Society, and the Unitarian Layman's League. In 1906 he married Miss Alice Morse, and they reside in Jamaica Plain. Ackerman, J. Walter, Engineer and Statesman, of Watertown N.Y.,was born on Dec. 5, 1867, in Auburn, N.Y. He was educated at Cazenovia Seminary, and at Cornell University. He is city manager of Watertown, N.Y. He has also been city engineer and chief engineer of Water Works. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Water Works Association, and the New England Water Works Association. In 1902 he married Miss Bertha H. Vedder; and they have a family of two sons and one daughter. Ackermann, Carl, Minister and College Professor, of 2315 East Main Street Columbus, Ohio, was born on Sept. 12, 1858, in Wooster, Ohio. He was educated at the Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. He is head of the English Department of Capital University of Columbus; secretary of the Faculty of Capital University; statisticial and recording secretary of the Joint Synod of Ohio. He has also been co-editor of the Lutheran Church Year Book in 1917-19; and editor of Lutheran Almanac.
