THE ANNIVERSARY BANQUET Was held in the dining room of the St. Charles Hotel at 8:30 o'clock Thursday evening. The popularity of this social occasion was well attested by the large attendance and the genuine good fellowship which prevailed. It was more conclusive, since this year, each member paid for his dinner. The result shows clearly the wisdom of the action taken last year by the Society in the interests of retrenchment. Everyone who cared to attend at all seemed quite willing to pay one dollar. About 220 were in attendance, including many ladies. We regretted the absence of Drs. Cushing and Flexner, who had found it necessary to return home during the day. The "Saw Bones Choir" hardly did themselves justice, though the musical program was relieved in part by the "Stein Song" of Dr. Horace M. Brown, the doctor leading the chorus with voice and violin with great enthusiasm. Dr. W. H. Earles was magister and presided with his accustomed grace and ability over the following program: THE FUTURE OF MEDICINE........DR. WILLIAM E. FAIRFIELD, Green Bay "We know what we are, but know not what we may be." -Hamlet, act 4, sc. v. THE RELIGION OF THE DOCTOR.... .REV. JULIUS H. MEYER, Milwaukee "Slave to no sect, who takes no private road, But looks through Nature, up to Nature's God." VIOLIN SOLO.... Pope's Essay on Man ...DR. ARTHUR J. PATEK. MEDICINE IN THE EAST...... PROF. SIMON FLEXNER, University of Penn. "All things are in common among friends." -Diogenes Laertius. STEIN SONG..... .WORDS AND MUSIC BY DR. H. M. BROWN. ....DR. E. F. FISH, Milwaukee. THE DOCTOR AS A CITIZEN... OUR STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY-ITS FUTURE.. .....THE PRESIDENT ELECT "The best of prophets of the future is the past." GOOD NIGHT, LADIES.
