Provide for the allocation of part of the monies A.D. 1929. standing to the credit of the Welfare Fund from time to time to a fund, and to provide for the payment of pensions there out to aged miners on their ceasing to work in or about coal mines, and to extend the period during which payment shall be made into the Welfare Fund.

HEREAS by the Mining Industry Act, 1920, a

fund was constituted to be applied to various purposes which purposes were extended by the Mining Industry Act, 1926, whereby provision was further made 5 for the payment into the said fund of the royalties welfare levy.

And whereas by the Mining Industry Acts, 1920 and 1925, the period for which sums are to be paid into the said fund is limited to ten years from 31st March, 10 1921.

And whereas it is desirable to vary the purposes and extend the period aforesaid and to confer powers to enable sums to be paid out of the said Fund by way of pension or otherwise to the relief of aged persons after 15 leaving employment in or about mines.

Be it therefore enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this

1.-(1) One half of the sums standing to the credit ment of the of the Welfare Fund at the date of the passing of this Act not allocated to any existing or approved scheme 5 and one half of all sums thereafter in any one year paid into the Welfare Fund Account may as from the thirty-first day of March, 1929, be paid into a separate fund to be known as The Aged Miners' Pension Fund, and the Miners' Welfare Committee shall direct the 10 payment into the Aged Miners' Pension Fund to the credit of any Coal District of a sum equal to one half of such Coal District's total annual allocation from the Welfare Fund if requested so to do by the majority of the workers in or about coal mines in such Coal 15 District as determined by ballot: Provided that when an allocation has been made to the Aged Miners' Pension Fund for any one district, allocations equal to one half of that District total annual allocation from the Welfare Fund shall be made annually for the period during 20 which payments are made into the Welfare Fund under the provisions of the Mining Industry Acts, 1920 to 1925, as amended by section ten of this Act.

(2) The Board of Trade shall keep a separate account of the said Aged Miners' Pension Fund.

(3) The Aged Miners' Pension Fund account shall be divided into parts separate for each Coal District to which an allocation is made together with an additional part to be known as the Aged Miners' Pension Fund (Equalization) Account.

2. Monies standing to the credit of the Aged Miners' Pension Fund shall be applied in providing pensions sions out of for aged miners being qualified persons within the meaning of this Act.

3.--(1) A person shall be deemed to be a qualified 35 person within the meaning of this Act who

(a) has attained the age of sixty years and has been employed for not less than thirty years as a worker in or about coal mines in any coal district;
