Fees and Expenses payable, under section 10 of the principal
Act, to the Medical Practitioners* appointed by the
Secretary of State for the purposes of the Act. The
amounts payable by parties in accordance with sections
11 and 25 of the Act of 1923, will, when recovered, be
appropriated in aid of the Vote (Subhead O.)

H.-CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARDS THE EXPENSES OF A
SYSTEM OF PROBATION.

Provision is made for the payment of contributions on a
basis approved by the Treasury towards the expenditure
of local authorities in connection with a system of proba-
tion on the general lines of the scheme recommended
in the Report of the Departmental Committee on the
Training, Appointment, and Payment of Probation Officers
(Cmd. 1601) ..

Statutory provision for the payment of these contributions
has now been made by Section 5 of the Criminal
Justice Act, 1925 (15 & 16 Geo. 5, c. 86), which comes
into force on the 1st July, 1926.

An Inspector of Factories, Class I., is seconded for this duty. His salary is included under Subhead R. (1)

§ Under S.2 (2) of the Act one-half of any fine imposed by a Court of Summary Jurisdiction in pursuance of the Section in procee lings taken by direction of a Secretary of State or the Director of Public Prosecutions is payable to the Exchequer; and the same section provides for the forfeiture to His Majesty of all articles in respect of which the offence was committed. The moieties of fines received in Great Britain and paid into the Exchequer during the year ended 30 September, 1925, amounted to 431. 4s. 6d. No amounts were received in the Exchequer during this period in respect of forfeitures under the Act; but 9,1891. 7s. 10d. was received in respect of the proceeds of the sale of articles seized on the voyage and returned to this country.
