1. ESTIMATE of the Amount required in the Year ending 31 March 1927 as a Contribution to the cost of the IMPROVEMENT OF THE APPROACH TO THE MALL (4 and 5 Geo. 5. c. 28). Ten Pounds. II. HEAD under which this Vote will be accounted for by the OFFICE OF WORKS. CONTRIBUTION TO THE COST OF IMPROVEMENT OF 10 9,000 DECREASE £8,990 III. DETAILS of the foregoing. The works are being carried out by the London County Council under the provisions of the Mall Approach (Improvement) Act, 1914. It is provided in the Act that the Commissioners of Works shall contribute one-third of the net cost of the work, or 38,3331., whichever is the less; and that this contribution shall be defrayed partly out of moneys provided by Parliament, and partly out of other moneys at the disposal of the Commissioners. Advances already made on account of the Contribution are as follows: The Commissioners of Works are therefore liable for the payment of a further sum not exceeding 14,049. It is, however, quite uncertain to what extent this liability will mature during the year 1926, and in these circumstances the Estimate has been limited to a Token provision only. 1. Ordnance Survey publications are presented to Libraries under the Copyright Acts, 1842 and 1911, and supplied gratuitously to Public Departments, &c. The value of the works so distributed in 1925 by the Survey Department was 5,3971. This amount excludes issues to the War Office, Admiralty, and Air Ministry which are supplied on Repayment Terms (see Subhead H. Appropriations in Aid).
