NOTES. (1) Fighting Services. Lodgings, fuel and light, furniture, provisions or rations, and servants are valued at the rates of the appropriate cash allowances. Where there are separate rates of allowances for married and single officers, the married rates are shown. Colonial allowances where drawn are included, also station pay or foreign allowances of Naval, Military and Air Attachés. Table money and entertainment allowances are excluded. The emoluments of Naval, Military and Air Attachés are fixed with regard to the representative positions which they occupy. (2) Civil Appointments. The return includes Civil Officers employed in the Fighting Departments. Ministers of the Crown and Judges are excluded. (3) Diplomatic, Consular, Commercial Diplomatic and Trade Commissioner Services. The allowances for "frais de representation," granted to Heads of Missions and the representation allowances of officers of the Consular, Commercial Diplomatic and Trade Commissioner Services, are excluded. The emoluments of officers in these services generally, and, in particular, foreign or local allowances where drawn, are fixed with regard to the representative position which they occupy.
