In 1764 he was owner of Lot 21, Division of Quogue Purchase, and Lots I and 4, Great South Division, and lived west of Watermill (census, 1776). He died in 1779. Jerusha 318 JOB.5 Was living in 1791. 102 SUSANNAH SAYRE born in 1709; married, December 11, 1735, Hezekiah Howell, who was born May 6, 1709, in Southampton, N. Y., and was a son of Lieutenant Hezekiah Howell. He settled in Blagg's Cove, Blooming Grove, Orange County, N. Y., in 1727, and died there in 1785. CHILDREN. 319 PHEBE HOWELL,5 b. June 1, 1737. 321* HEZEKIAH HOWELL,5 b. Sept. 13, 1741; m. Juliana Smith Woodhull. 103 ELIZABETH SAYRE born July 24, 1715; married Rev. Timothy Johnes, D. D., of Morristown, N. J., who was born in 1716. He was educated at Yale College, and was graduated in 1737, subsequently receiving the degree of D. D. He was ordained at Morristown, and became the first pastor of the Presbyterian church there, February 9, 1743, and continued as pastor till his death, September, 1794,- more than fifty-three years. He was highly esteemed and very successful as a pastor. General George Washington received the communion at his hands just before the battle of Brandywine. Elizabeth, his wife, died September 19, 1746. CHILD. 323* THEODOSIA JOHNES,5 m. Colonel Jacob Ford, Jr. LINE OF BENJAMIN, JOB.2 105 BENJAMIN SAYRE married first, July 3, 1740, Susannah second, He lived on the north side of the road that leads from Poxabogue to Bridgehampton, about half a mile west of the Poxabogue Cemetery, place now (1899) owned by George Conkling. In the Little South Division of Southampton, L. I., of the lots drawn in 1763, Benjamin Sayre drew lot No. 21, 50. In the census of Southampton in 1776, his household consisted of one male over fifty, one between sixteen and fifty, one under sixteen, two females over sixteen and one under sixteen. His will, dated November 14, 1791, probated April, 1794 (Liber A, folio 328), reads as follows: In the name of God, Amen. I Benjamin Sayre of Southampton in the County of Suffolk and State of New York Blacksmith being in health of body and of sound mind and memory thanks be given unto God for the same and calling unto mind the mortality of my body do make and ordain this my last will and testament and such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give demise and dispose in the following manner and form that is to say Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my son David Sayre that lot of land whereon his house stands which said lot my father formerly bought of Thomas Howell containing about twenty nine or thirty acres be it more or less to be to him and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Benjamin Sayre the house and land with all the buildings thereon which I formerly bought of William Topping the land containing about ten acres be it more or less likewise twenty acres more or less lying at the little pond formerly bought of John Reeve and three acres formerly bought of Silas Howell and five acres of woodland lying between Josiah Hand's land and Daniel Hedges land and ten acres of woodland lying in the bounds of East Hampton between the lands of Ezekiel Howell and Noah Barns to be to him and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son James Sayre my lot on the North side of the Road containing about eleven acres be it more or less with all the buildings thereon likewise twenty acres of land on the South side of the road be it more or less which land I formerly bought of Joshua Howell to be to him and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give to my sons David Sayre and James Sayre all my woodlands at Noyack and about seventeen acres of woodland in the bounds of Easthampton in the hollow lot adjoining John Novin's land also about seventeen acres of woodland which I bought of Abraham Cook called Cook's land adjoining Stephen Edwards land also about four acres of woodland lying near Moses Howell's orchard all which several pieces of woodland I give equally to my sons David and James to be to them their heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give to my sons David Benjamin and James Sayre one quarter of a fifty of Commonage and one acre of orchard at brooked pond to be equal between them and to their heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give to my son Zephaniah Sayre all my movable estate to him and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give to my four daughters Susannah, Elizabeth, Phebe and Abigail the sum of five shillings each current money of New York. Item. I constitute and appoint my two sons David Sayre and James Sayre my only executors of this my last will and testament and order my executors to pay my just debts and legacies out of the moveable estate left to my son Zephaniah Sayre and I hereby revoke and disannull all other will or wills by me before made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in confirmation whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety one and in the sixteenth year of American Independence. He married, November 23, 1763, Mehitable Herrick, daughter of Nathan Herrick, of Southampton. She was born April 19, 1737, and died February 15, 1807. He was Second Lieutenant of Minute-men in the Revolution; elected February 15, 1776. See "History of Suffolk County." He was a member of the church at Southampton, on the roll of 1800. His father gave him, by will, his farm in Southampton, where he died July 8, 1819. His tombstone, and those of many of his descendants, are in the cemetery southwest of Mecox Bay.
