J., October 8, 1820, and his widow, Priscilla Gifford, died December 7, 1841. His lineage has not been traced. He may have been a son of Samuel Sayre, of Hopewell, Cumberland County, N. J., who died intestate in 1760, and for whose estate John Bishop was appointed administrator. The last-mentioned Samuel may have been one of the three unnamed sons of Stephen Sayre found on page 37. Jeremiah Sayre, whose record follows, was probably a son of Stephen mentioned on pages 37 and 697, and a brother of Samuel whose family is given on preceding pages. There was a Jeremiah Sayre who was a Captain from Cumberland County, N. J., in the Revolutionary War, and who may have been the person hereinafter mentioned. So assuming, he would be Jeremiah 5 Sayre, born June 28, 1740; married probably as a second wife, Phebe who died at Bridgeton, N. J., March 15, 1823, aged fifty-eight years. He bought land in Cumberland County in 1780. He died intestate November 29, 1811. His widow and son . Alexander were appointed administrators.
