He may have been a son of Samuel Sayre, of Hopewell, Cumberland County, N. J., who died intestate in 1760, and for whose estate John Bishop was appointed administrator. He removed to New York in 1846 and was a cabinet-furniture dealer in New York and Brooklyn, later engaging in the real-estate business. He died Aug. 1, 1887. Jeremiah Sayre, whose record. follows, was probably a son of Stephen mentioned on pages 37 and 697, and a brother of Samuel whose family is given on pre ceding pages. There was a Jeremiah Sayre who was a Captain from Cumberland County, N. J., in the Revolutionary War, and who may have been the person hereinafter mentioned. So assuming, he would be Jeremiah 5 Sayre, born June 28, 1740; married probably as a second wife, Phebe who died at Bridgeton, N. J., March 15, 1823, aged fifty-eight years. He bought land in Cumberland County in 1780. He died intestate November 29, 1811. His widow and son Alexander were appointed administrators.
