334 ABRAHAM SAYRE, born March 17, 1747; married Ruth Foster. He was a member of the church at Southampton, June 2, 1809, and she was a member, June 3, 1803. He died December 24, 1832, and was buried at Sag Harbor, N. Y.

335 DAVID SAYRE, born October 30, 1749, at Southampton, L. I.; married June 25, 1779, Mary Howell, daughter of John and Desire White Howell, who was born September 10, 1756, and died March 16, 1825. He is said to have been a Revolutionary soldier. He was a farmer at Southampton, N. Y. He died March 9, 1825.

His will, dated January 11, 1819, and probated June 9, 1825, read as follows:

In the Name of God, Amen. I David Sayre of the town of Southampton in the County of Suffolk and State of New York Farmer being of sound mind

and memory thanks be to God therefor but calling to mind the mortality of my body do make this my last will and testament and principally I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I dispose of it in the manner following.

Firstly. I give to my beloved wife all the personal estate which remains of what she brought me.

Secondly. I give to my three daughters Pamelia, Polly and Joyce five dollars in cash to each of them and my will is that they shall have a home in the house as long as they remain single.

Thirdly. I give to my son Hervey Sayre to him his heirs and assigns forever about Four acres of Brushland which is bounded Northerly and Southerly by Matthew Sayre.

Fourthly. I give to my son Oliver Sayre to him his heirs and assigns forever all my buildings together with all the residue of my lands woodlands & meadows. Also give to Oliver all my moveable estate of whatever nature or quality the same may be except what is above disposed of on condition that he pay all my just debts and the legacies and in all things comply with my will as it respects more particularly his three sisters above named, and I make my son Oliver Sayre sole executor to this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke every other will or wills by me before made and do ratify and confirm this and none other to be my last will and testament.

339 SYLVANUS SAYRE, born in Southampton, L. I., April 3, 1771; married at Thetford, Vt., on April 11, 1793, Mercy Howard, only child of Zebedee Howard, one of the first settlers of Thetford. She was born in Thetford, February 13, 1769, and died August 29, 1849.

He was a cooper by trade, but became a farmer in Thetford, Vt. He died September 28, 1853.

355 DANIEL SAYRE, born at Southampton, L. I., May 10, 1765; was married four times: first, June 25, 1789, to Joyce Huntting, who was born November 15, 1761, and died December 19, 1805; second, September 7, 1806, Cynthia Hunttington, daughter of Jonathan Hunttington, of Hartford, Conn., who was born August 12, 1772, and died October 26, 1817; third, April 27, 1818, Deborah Kneeland, who died September 23, 1820; fourth, February 20, 1821, Desdemona Willis.

He joined the Presbyterian Church at Southampton in 1785, and was chosen the Ruling Elder in 1792. In 1794 he bought a farm of one hundred acres in Greene County, N. Y., on Shingle Kill, in what is now Cairo, and began the business of tanning, and eventually owned a shoe factory. On May 22, 1799, a church was organized with three male and five female members, and he was

chosen Deacon.

In 1800 he was chosen Justice of the Peace, and held office for twenty-one years. In 1803 he was appointed Assistant Judge, and in 1804 was In 1806 he was Judge of Common Pleas of Greene 1808, his house was destroyed by fire, and four of his He died November 7, 1840.

356 FRANCIS 6 SAYRE, born at Southampton, L. I., September 28, 1766; married December 11, 1803, Nancy Cooper, who died June 21, 1840, in her sixty-fifth year. He was the only one of the six brothers who remained on the old homestead at Flying Point, on the road southwest of Mecox Bay, about two miles from Watermill. He died May 21, 1843.

969 LUCY, b. Sept. 5, 1813; m. 1840, James S. Skidmore, of Franklinville (Riverhead), who died in 1895. She was a member of the church at Southampton, Aug. 23, 1831. "Removed to another church." She was living

in 1900. They had three children; two died young; one, a daughter, married, and died at the age of 33 years, leaving no children.

358 JOHN SAYRE, born in Southampton, L. I., June 13, 1771; married April 10, 1816, Elizabeth Downer, daughter of Samuel Downer, of Westfield, N. J., where she was born December 31, 1788. She died at Plainfield, August 29, 1874.

He was a watchmaker and jeweler, and later was a book publisher in New York, at one time on the corner of Broadway and Wall street. He published the first Bible commentary in this country — a republication of that of Thomas Scott, of England — and other religious works.

He subsequently lived in Cohoes, N. Y., where he was a director and manager of a cotton factory in 1824. In 1829 the factory was burned and the company dissolved.

He died in Plainfield, N. J., November 26, 1852.
