Remarks.

Manufacturing district (matchwood, flour, spirits, beer, bricks, hemp, woven goods, cured fish), centre of large agricultural district stretching from Abuta and Kuchan to Asahigawa and Ochiai. Chief products :— Rice, wheat, sorghum, maize, buckwheat, beans, potatoes, turnips, onions, oats and fruit. Cattle raised in north-eastern parts of district. Timber found in Sorachi district (Utashinai, Sunagawa, Iwamizawa), and in Ishikari and Iburi provinces generally. Sapporo is the capital of the island, the centre of government, and the point from which the development of the island in the early post-restoration days started Agricultural centre (rice, potatoes, beans and fruit).
