The Muse has stray'd, and much of sorrow seen. NIGHT IX. LONDON: Printed for, and under the Direction of, G. CAWTHORN, British Library, STRAND. M DCC XCVI. Geddes Family 4-29-32 THE LIFE OF DR. EDWARD YOUNG. THERE This illustrious favourite of the Muses, and ornament of the present century, was the son of the Rev. Mr. Edward Young, a learned and pious divine of the Church of England, of whom there are still extant two volumes of sermons, which able judges have not scrupled to pronounce among the most valuable in our language. The year in which our Poet was born seems.not to be positively known, but in all probability it must have been in or about 1679. Alike animated to excel |
