FOREWORD.

In this publication, the statistics relating to Agriculture and Co-operative Societies generally relate to the year running from July to June. All the other tables relate either to the fiscal year or to calendar year and where the latter is the case it is clearly indicated in the tables. The alterations or additions made in the present issue of the Abstract are noticed below:

(1) Table No. 131-Coins other than the Government of India Rupees received into the mints for re-coinage—of the third issue of the Abstract has been omitted.

(2) The following new tables have been introduced :

(a) 150A.-Number of under-graduates in institutions controlled by Provincial Boards of Education.

(b) 153A.-Results of examinations conducted by Provincial Boards of Education.

(c) 167A.-Yield of principal crops in British India.

(3) Following the changes introduced in the tables of the Railway Administration Reports, the statistics dealt with in tables Nos. 200-207 of the third issue have been condensed in two tables-Nos. 199 and 200—in the fourth issue.

(4) Table No. 261 (No. 268 of the third issue)-Wrecks and Casualties in Indian Waters—has been amplified in this issue by the addition of figures relating to casualties.
