(b) Students who attended more than one School are counted separately in respect of each School which they attended; the number of individual Students was therefore less than the number given in the table. (c) Students who attended more than one Course are counted separately in respect of each Course which they attended; the number of individual Students was, therefore, considerably less than the number given in the table. PUBLIC EDUCATION-ENGLAND AND WALES. No. 33.-DAY TECHNICAL CLASSES AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTION COURSES. (a) The terms "Day Technical Classes" and "Technical Institution Courses" in this table bear the meaning assigned to them in the Board of Education's "Regulations for Technical Schools, etc." (Ch. 3). Institutions in receipt of grant for the year ended 31st July, 1912, under the "Statement of Grants available from the Board of Education in aid of Technological and Professional Work in Universities in England and Wales" are not included in the figures for that year; this explains the decrease in the figures for "Technical Institution Courses 1911-12. Medical Schools have also been excluded throughout. No. 34.-JUNIOR TECHNICAL SCHOOLS. (a) for (a) "Junior Technical Schools were first recognised in the school year 1913-14. Before that year, schools of this type had been recognised as "Day Technical Classes." PUBLIC EDUCATION-ENGLAND AND WALES No. 36.-SCHOOLS OF ART. (b) Includes expenditure in respect of Military Occupation of school premises. (a) The figures for non-County Boroughs and Urban Districts are not included for 1921 and subsequent years, except so far as the expenditure of the County Councils includes sums paid over to those authorities for disbursement. (b) In years prior to 1921 these receipts correspond to amounts which are ultimately included twice under " Payments" viz., as payments both by the contributing authority (included under "Contributions to other Local Authorities") and by the Authority to whom the amounts were contributed. From 1921 this applies only to the extent to which the figures in Col. 4 represent receipts from Counties and County Boroughs. No. 39.-EXPENDITURE OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OUT OF THE NOTE.-Owing to changes in the Grant system, figures for the above Table are not available for years prior to 1913-14. |
