SPECIAL PREPARATION FOR SPECIAL LINES OF SERVICE.

Group Activities.

As was shown in Part Two of this work, there are a number of special lines of service among the various extension activities, which are called group activities. The character of these groups of extension service and the kind of service that they render has already been pointed out and discussed in Part Two. It remaines to be seen what individual preparation is demanded for work of this sort, before success can be attained and results obtained. Thirteen special group activities are mentioned in the questionnaire as follows:Boys' Club Work, Girls' Club Work, Demonstration Farm Work, County Agent Work, Farmers' Short Course Work, Farmers' Club Work, Farmers' School Work, Farmers' Institute Work, Lecture Course Work, Correspondence Work, Editorial, Publication and Publicity Work, Home Economics Extension Work and Teachers' Agricultural Institute Work. Each particular group works in an environment which is strongly individual and characteristic of the type of work. Each group therefore must demand a special preparation and experience that will dovetail into work of that nature.

In Table C are given some specific requirements and methods of preparation, which in the opinions of the directors of extension, have in the past produced efficient workers in these special group activities. It will be noted that teaching experience stands out prominently as a good and necessary requirement. The same is true of public speaking.
