home economics and agriculture. This is the minimum requirement proposed with all gradations upward to post graduate work.

Agricultural Teachers' Institute Work.

Sociology, pedagogical training, economics and teaching experience together with a thorough knowledge of agriculture, is the preparation and experience necessary for agricultural teachers' institute workers. The extension man in this line of service should be able to inspire. He should know what equipment is necesaary, should have a technical knowledge of scientific agriculture and should be able to show its application to the farm. Generally the college instructor is employed in this kind of work.

Summary.

Summarizing all of these opinions, it is suggested that a degree in agriculture, may assist greatly in supplying a large percentage of these academic requirements, if the proper selection of the courses is made.

COURSE OF STUDY REQUIRED IN THE PREPARATION OF
EXTENSION WORKERS.

Introduction.

The proposed course of study for the preparation of extension workers should harmonize with the opinions of the leaders of extension service, as discussed in the previous pages. The questionnaire classifies the various subjects in the proposed course under five heads, viz; language, science, mathamatics,

general preparation of a pedagogical nature and technical agriculture, as shown in Tables D and E. There is a rather decisive opinion, as shown by the tables, as to what shall constitute the course of study for the preparation of all extension workers.

Languages.

There is absolutely no dissension in the case of English. German and French are in the minority, while localities henefitting thereby would like to see Spanish and Portuguese included. Latin is entirely disregarded. Practicability is the purpose to be kept in mind.

Science.

In regard to the sciences, nearly all of the answers are positive for chemistry, physics, biology, botany, zoology, physiology and bacteriology. There is not such a large demand for physiology as there is for the other sciences. Why? Because it is not as practical. As Prof. John Hamilton says," extension in agriculture is not primarily for mental development, nor is it mainly for general culture or for the gaining of technical expertness in chemical analysis, microscopic work, or other analytical methods. The course is to show how truth obtained by scientific and practical men may be applied in securing profitable production."

Mathematics.

In mathematics, also, there seems to be little demand for
