* The proceeds of sale of old building materials have been appropriated in aid of the Votes for Art and Science Buildings and Public Buildings respectively.

† The vendor of a house on the site received in part payment for his interest, the lease of No. 3, Whitehall Place, on advantageous terms. This arrangement involved a net charge of 4371. per annum on the Public Buildings Vote until 1912.

This sum does not include-
(a) Value of land in possession of the Commissioners of H.M. Works, &c.,

before the passing of 59 Vict. c. 5.
(b) Value of property in King Street exchanged for land belonging to the

Crown at Cannon Row. In connexion with this transaction a sum of 48,6281. 178. 6d., being equality of exchange, has been paid over to the National Debt Commissioners, in accordance with 61 Vict. c. 5, section 1,

subsection 4. ş Certain buildings transferred from the Commissioners of Woods exceeded the value of those given in exchange by the Commissioners of H.M. Works, &c., by the sum of 96,3261. 28. 10d. The estimated value of the buildings thus acquired was 245,3121., but the account was charged with the difference only.

p} This sum does not include the cost of land belonging to the Crown, which forms the largest part of the site, and was valued at 404,8781. Part of the purchase money in respect of this land is being paid by way of terminable annuity out of the Consolidated Fund.

† The amount due in respect of the difference between the value of the premises in Queen Victoria Street formerly occupied by the Savings Bank, and the cost of the new Savings Bank premises erected under the above-mentioned Acts, including the cost of the site, has been transferred to the Post Office Savings Bank Funds.

This expenditure is in addition to expenditure borne upon the Vote for Public Buildings as shown in the Appropriation Accounts for 1904–5 and 1913–14.

!! This expenditure is in addition to the sum of 202,4211. 58. Ild., being cost of the land purchased by the Trustees of the British Museum, 200,0001. of which is now being paid for by terminable annuity provided for in the Vote for British Museum under 57 & 58 Vict. c. 34.

§ This sum does not include expenditure amounting to 55,5691. 8s. 10d., defrayed from funds derived from the Stuckey Lean Bequest.
