Most of the Royal Air Force Stations were constructed during the war and consist very largely of buildings of a temporary character. In order to postpone rebuilding until such time as building prices became stable a programme of reconditioning the existing temporary accommodation was drawn up and included in this item. Generally speaking, the expenditure is confined to services necessary to make the buildings reasonably habitable pending rebuilding. The provision for 1927 is for outstanding liabilities. No new items in 1927 are provided for.

Very few facilities existed after the War at Air Stations for personnel to live with their families in cases where they were entitled to do so. These items provide for the construction of quarters for married officers and airmen within approved scales. Wherever it has been practicable existing buildings have been adapted for the purpose and houses in the vicinity acquired where prices are reasonable. The provision for 1927 is for completion of services authorised at various stations at Home prior to 1 April 1927. New works for 1927 are provided under station items.

Facilities are provided in accordance with approved scales; and in respect of certain works provided for officers 25 per cent. only of the cost is met from public funds. The provision for 1927 is for outstanding liabilities. New works proposed for 1927 are provided for in appropriate station items under subhead B or in subhead C.

To replace Army accommodation no longer available.
