In accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the state of Illinois, the twenty-first General Assembly of said state convened at the state house, in the city of Springfield, on Monday, the 3d day of January, A. D. 1859. On motion of Mr. Detrich, The House was called to order, and On further motion of Mr. Detrich, Hon. Thomas S. Hick, of Gallatin, was appointed speaker, pro tem. On motion of Mr. Campbell of Logan, W. D. Wyatt, of Logan county, was appointed clerk of the House, pro tem. On motion of Mr. Detrich, David E. Head, of Hancock county, was appointed assistant clerk, pro tem. Wm. J. Hurst, of Morgan county, was appointed door-keeper, pro tem. J. H. Holton was appointed assistant door-keeper, pro tem. Mr. Anderson offered the following resolution: Resolved, That the House proceed to call the roll alphabetically, and to receive certificates of election from such members as may be in attendance; Which resolution was adopted.
