ESTIMATE of the Amount required in the Year ending 31 March 1927 for defraying the liability under the GOVERNMENT GUARANTEE in respect of any loss which may result from the holding of the BRITISH EMPIRE EXHIBITION (10 & 11 Geo. V. c. 74, 12 & 13 Geo. V. c. 25 and 15 & 16 Geo. V. c. 26). Two Hundred and Seventy-five Thousand Pounds. II. HEAD under which this Vote will be accounted for by the DEPARTMENT OF OVERSEAS TRADE. Provision is made for meeting the outstanding liability of His Majesty's Government in respect of its guarantee of part of the loss resulting from the holding of the British Empire Exhibition under the British Empire Exhibition (Guarantee) Acts, 1920-25. An Interim Certificate of Deficiency was issued by the Auditors of the Exhibition, dated the 4th December, 1925, and a call of 75 per cent. was made upon the guarantors. It was anticipated that further calls would be made before the end of the financial year, but this expectation was not realised. It is therefore necessary again to provide for further calls. The final liability cannot be determined until the liquidation of the assets is completed, and provision is accordingly made for the full outstanding liability. If the final call (which under the terms of the Guarantee must be made before the 31st October, 1926) is made before the realisation of the assets is complete, any sum which may subsequently be payable to His Majesty's Government out of the proceeds of the realisation will be paid over to the Exchequer as an Extra Receipt.
