SIR: I have the honor to transmit herewith, for the consideration of Congress, copy of a communication from the Assistant Secretary of Commerce, of the 27th ultimo, reporting under the provisions of section 4 of the act of June 17, 1910 (36 Stat., p. 537), the following claims for damages which have been considered, adjusted, and determined to be due the claimants by the Commissioner of Lighthouses, under authority of the above-cited act, on account of damages occasioned by collisions for which vessels of the Lighthouse Service have been found to be responsible: In favor of the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad Co., for damage to Pier 34, East River, by the lighthouse tender Tulip, on April 23, 1914, $98.43. In favor of the Tremley Transportation Co., 80 Maiden Lane, New York, N. Y., for damage to steamer Eugene Grasselli, by the lighthouse tender Tulip, on April 23, 1914, $30.97. In favor of the American Dredging Co., 510-512 Mariner & Merchant Building, Philadelphia, Pa., for damage to dredge Columbia, by the fouling of a wire mooring by the lighthouse tender Iris, on June 3, 1914, $176.75. In favor of the New York & New Jersey Transportation Co., 1 Broadway, New York, N. Y., for damage to boat Bituminous by the light vessel No. 79, on June 29, 1914, $467.92. In favor of the F. S. Willard Co., Portland, Me., for damage to lobster car, by the lighthouse tender Lilac, on August 15, 1914, $10. In favor of Rippley Manufacturing & Steel Boat Co., Grafton, Ill., for damage to ferryboat of said company, by the lighthouse tender Goldenrod, on June 27, 1914, $17.50. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, SIR: Pursuant to section 4 of the act of Congress approved June 17, 1910 (36 Stat., 537), authorizing the Commissioner of Lighthouses, subject to the approval of the Secretary of Commerce, to consider, ascertain, adjust and determine all claims for damages occasioned by collisions for which vessels of the lighthouse service shall be found responsible, where the amount of the claim does not exceed $500, and report the amounts so ascertained and determined to be due claimants to Congress at each session thereof, through the Treasury Department, I have to state below the claims which the Commissioner of Lighthouses has considered and adjusted, and in which there are ascertained and determined the amounts stated to be due the claimants named: Claim of the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad Co. for damage to Pier 34, East River, by collision of lighthouse tender Tulip, on April 23, 1914, $98.43.
