ESTIMATES OF APPROPRIATIONS FOR DEFRAYING THE EXPENSES OF COLLECTING THE REVENUE FROM CUSTOMS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 1916.

The SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

SIR: In accordance with the provisions of section 5 of the act of August 5, 1882 (22 Stat. L., 256), I have the honor to transmit herewith estimates of appropriations for defraying the expenses of collecting the revenue from customs for the fiscal year ending June 30,

1916.

The statement contained in this estimate specifies in detail the number and class of officers and employees of every grade and nature, with the rate of compensation to each, which in my judgment will be necessary to properly conduct the business of collecting the revenue at each port of entry in the United States; also the amounts required for contingent expenses of the service as can not be otherwise specifically provided for.
