PREFACE

HE main purpose of Herringshaw's AMERICAN

BLUE BOOK of Biography is to present in one volume and in condensed form, a standard work of Biographical Reference, giving appropriate notices of all those who are identified in any capacity with the various phases of our National Activity and Progress.

The AMERICAN BLUE BOOK gives in a single handy volume in Dictionary form and without mystifying abbreviations, the biographic life stories of over thirty thousand persons selected from one hundred millions of citizens, men who lead in American thought and action, and who direct the affairs, the industries and the intellectual progress of this great commonwealth of ours.
