Nature Pictures by American Poets

Front Cover
Read Books, 2009 - Poetry - 248 pages
Originally published in 1899, the editors aim in this compilation has been to select, from the works of representative American poets, certain pictures of nature, either vignettes of specific objects or broad landscape effects. There has been a hope that the book might aid in nature study and might foster aesthetic observation and culture. The selections are all taken from authors of high literary rank, with the desire to promote among the younger students a further acquaintance with contemporaneous poets, and, at the same time, to recall familiarly certain classic American poems of description and narration. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
