Deceased's duty He was attempting to thaw the water in a pipe for the use of a steam navvy in the quarry, Fall of overburden. Deceased had cut a narrow gullett through the overburden about A piece of clay fell from the quarry face and struck deceased who was working below. Fall of rock after shot-firing. The deceased returned to work before an official examination Deceased was chargeman of the quarry and was charging a cavity with gunpowder, when a stone fell from above him and knocked him off the ledge upon which he was standing. He died 20th October. See page 37. Richard Shatwell, 41, Quarryman. Deceased had taken shelter in a properly built cabin, and went outside to call to a man just as a shot exploded. A stone from the shot struck his head and fractured his skull. He died 20th October. Deceased was driving a wedge in a stone forming a ledge on the quarry face.
