This arises from the fact that in the Scottish Census the industry figures include, but the occupation figures exclude, some students and ex-commissioned officers and other ranks of the Naval and Military Services, who in the occupation tabulation were classed among persons without remunerative occupation, and also certain persons from whom a statement of industry, but no corresponding statement of occupation, was obtained.
