In addition to the persons included in this Table, 1,821 males and 161 females aged above 16 were dealt with by Juvenile Courts, and 707 boys and 57 girls under 14 years of age and 2,913 male and 111 female young persons aged 14 and under 16 were dealt with by ordinary Courts of Summary Jurisdiction, because they were charged jointly with adults, or were supposed to be aged above 16. ▸ Columns 5 and 6 include 12 cases of boys whipped with the consent of their parents and discharged. Note. The following orders were made against parents or guardians of juveniles charged with offences, viz:-cases in which the child or young person was not convicted, 2,050 to pay damages or costs, 1,444 to enter into recognizances; cases in which the child or young person was convicted, 1,215 to pay fine, damages or costs, 21 to enter into recognizances.
